SARAH ROBSON
CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC COUNSELLOR
Sarah Robson is a fully qualified Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with a PGDip and MEd from Cambridge University and she is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
She has over 10 years of specialist experience working with children, teenagers and young adults therapeutically in primary and secondary schools and sixth form colleges and a young persons mental health charity.
Sarah’s therapeutic approach is person-centred and integrative; drawing on a variety of therapeutic techniques to meet the needs of each individual. She seeks to build a good therapeutic relationship with each child and young person so they can express their feelings and emotions freely to find better ways of coping with their specific difficulties.
Sarah works with children (aged 4-11), teenagers (aged 12-18) and young adults (aged 19-26).
Young people come with a range of issues they are facing, and Sarah has experience and training to work with, amongst other concerns:
Abuse, issues relating to all forms of neurodiversity, anger, anxieties, behavioural problems, bereavement and loss, depression and low mood, eating disorders, loneliness, poor self-esteem, self-harm and suicidality, and stress.
With Children, therapy is child-led using play to explore the child’s feelings, emotions and behaviour, this might include traditional talking therapies, age-appropriate play and games, the use of the sand tray, art and crafts, storytelling with books or puppets and role play.
With Teenagers, therapy can include traditional talking therapies, drawing and art, discussion of appropriate music, gaming or other online influences and role playing of potential ways to deal with your specific situations – there will be no awkward silences and we will discuss your concerns, and you will be met with openness and understanding.
With Young Adults, the work is person-centred way in the recognition that you are the expert in you and Sarah can assist by providing an open and curious environment where you can consider your circumstances and work on finding tools to help you change, or cope with, your specific situation using a range of therapeutic tools tailored to you.
Caregivers may join for part of the session to help settle a young person and an initial appointment, without the child, can be offered if needed.
Sarah works Monday and Thursday at The Beechwood Practice, 41 Hills Road, Cambridge, CB2 1NT
