Thermal Imaging
Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI) is an accepted adjunctive method of diagnostics. The Meditherm system is registered with the MHRA as a Class 1 Medical Device MDD/2007/47/EEC.
The system is compact and silent. It is non-invasive; there is no contact, no pain, no risk, no radiation and the medical report along with an image report is usually complete in 24 hours. These reports are not for self-analysis but are for the use of your own health-care provider. With thermal sensitivity to 0.01ºC the accuracy and specificity provides the medical and clinical professional with a clear indication of an underlying pathology.
The human body is thermally symmetrical, and thermal patterns are constant and repeatable. Underlying pathology will cause thermal asymmetry. DITI is simply a non-invasive screening technology offering clinically significant information without side effects. A panel of qualified doctors then interprets these images. A full medical appraisal is compiled along with the image report and these can be presented to your physician, GP or practitioner for further clinical correlation and treatment.
BREAST SCREENING. Whilst DITI can be used for many disciplines to establish causal centres of pain it has been shown to be very effective in the early detection of active breast disease for all ages of women. This is very relevant for small-breasted women and males, who may have difficulty with Mammography. Almost 1% of all diagnosed breast cancers are in males! It is also safe and effective where implants are present. Although there are some breast conditions for which DITI is the only test, it does not preclude the possibility of further anatomical tests.
PAIN ASSESSMENT. DITI is a study of physiology and not anatomy or structure. It can detect activity in the body where there may be inflammation, unusual vascular activity, which will be shown as Hyperthermia (hot). Equally there may be indications of neurological dysfunction, the syndrome, where the body shuts down will show up on the image as an area of Hypothermia (cold). Each of these conditions requires a very different treatment. The wrong physical treatment or pharmacological action can exacerbate the condition.
When you have pain that is not confirmed by tests of anatomy this can be very disturbing. You know that you have pain and it is very annoying to be told that ‘it is in your mind’. If there is a physiological problem, DITI is the only method of visualizing your pain. DITI is also very useful in both pre and post operative/treatment situations. As there is no risk or contact, it can be used safely and frequently to monitor the efficacy of the treatment. Where there are sensitive areas following surgery, burns or abrasions/lesions this can be valuable to the practitioner and reassuring to the patient.
Whether your pain is “acute” or “chronic”, DITI can help you, and your healthcare professional to safely get you back to better health.
The fees for DITI studies are: Upper body £175.00. Lower body £175.00. Full body £275.00. Breast (2 studies to establish a baseline) £175.00
