HOMEOPATH

Bob Blair LCH MARH CBP, Registered Homeopath,
Food sensitivty Consultant, Bioresonance Practitioner

It was a keen interest in diet and nutrition that initially led Bob Blair into the field of natural healthcare, culminating in his training to become a registered homeopath. His subsequent work with patients then highlighted the potential benefits of being able to thoroughly investigate the various factors contributing to their problems, and as a result he embraced the exciting field of bioresonance technology. Using the information provided by bioresonance tests he is able to advise about changes to diet and lifestyle, as well as to recommend appropriate supplements, herbal medicines, tissue salts, flower essences and homeopathic remedies. Whilst he sees many patients solely in his capacity as a homeopath, he finds that often patients can benefit from a very quick reduction or removal of their discomforts by identifying relevant food sensitivities; he then uses homeopathy to address the underlying causes, including any stress or trauma related psychological components of their illness. Bob trained as a classical homeopath but is able to employ a wide range of prescribing methods in cases where a purely classical approach is inappropriate.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy (also spelt homoeopathy) is a holistic system of medicine that works on the ancient healing principle of ‘like cures like’. It was developed into a scientific discipline 200 years ago by Dr Samuel Hahnemann. He observed that a substance given in a tiny dose is capable of curing an illness whose symptoms are similar to those produced by larger, toxic doses of that substance. A safe and gentle, yet profoundly effective form of treatment, homeopathy works by stimulating the body’s natural ability to heal itself. As a holistic system of medicine, homeopathy recognises that all symptoms of ill-health are the result of disorder within the whole person, and that this disharmony may arise from a number of contributing factors, both physical and psychological.

Homeopathic medicines, known as remedies, are made from a wide variety of materials, including plants, minerals, and animal products, such as milks and venoms, which undergo a process known as ‘potentisation’. This process creates highly diluted doses which contain a strong therapeutic action. 'Potentised' onion is an example of a homeopathic remedy; it may be used to relieve hayfever when the condition is characterised by watering eyes.

Homeopathic remedies are non-addictive, non-toxic and have no side-effects, so are safe and convenient for everyone, including sportspeople, pregnant women and babies.

Homeopathy aims to treat the whole person; it does not offer a conventional diagnosis. Whilst the response in short-term 'acute' illnesses is often very rapid, sometimes taking only minutes, homeopathy does not provide “magic bullets” simply designed to instantly remove unpleasant symptoms, but seeks to deal with the underlying causes of illness. Although many patients have experienced a great improvement in their chronic state of health after only a short period, it is likely that some level of commitment to a course of treatment will be required in order for benefits to be of a deep and permanent nature.

Homeopathic consultations

Your first homeopathic consultation will take about an hour and a quarter. During this time you will be asked questions not only about your present complaint, but about all sorts of other aspects of your life and health, in order to get an accurate picture of you as an individual. This information is then used to select an appropriate remedy, from among the thousands available, with psychological factors, such as stress, bereavement, abuse and suppressed emotions, as well as physical features being taken into consideration. All consultations are subject to the strictest confidentiality.

Follow-up interviews of approximately 25-40 minutes duration are usually initially at 4-6 week intervals. At your third appointment your response to treatment can be discussed in relation to realistic outcome and the likely length of time needed to achieve this. This prognosis is subject to periodic review.

side-effects of conventional treatment such as local or general anaesthetic, pharmaceutical drugs (and lasting ill-effects of recreational drug use), chemotherapy, radiation therapy; homeopathic treatment can also speed healing after surgery and assist in the withdrawal from pharmaceutical ad recreational drugs.

musculoskeletal problems, including acute injuries and their long-term effects, sprains, strains, fracture healing, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis.

chronic conditions, including lasting effects of physical injuries, myalgic encaphilits (ME), post-viral syndrome, chronic fatigue, candida/candidiasis (fungal-type dysbiosis), multiple sclerosis (MS) and other degenerative diseases.

traveller's health issues; travel kits with instructions can be provided for dealing with a range of problems likely to be encountered by those traveling abroad, and alternatives to conventional immunisation (injections/vaccination) can be provided.

Homeopathy is particularly suited to dealing with symptoms and ailments, no matter how peculiar, that defy medical explanation but that are nevertheless real to the sufferer.

Interpersonal relationships and personal development are other areas that respond well to homeopathy, and that Cambridge homeopath Bob Blair enjoys helping clients to work on.

Bioresonance Scanning:
testing for allergies, intolerances and toxic influences
nutrition analysis

Bioresonance scanning employs cutting edge technology to test your system's reaction to thousands of substances, quickly delivering detailed information on food intolerances, environmental sensitivities, vitamin and mineral status, toxicity levels, and organ weaknesses. The influence of fungi, parasites, and other potential problems can also be detected. Any of these factors may be adversely affecting your health, and many have been implicated in a wide range of disorders.

How does it work?

Scanning and treatment are facilitated by the use of bands circling the head, wrists and ankles, while you remain clothed and seated. Your reactions to selected electronic frequencies, each associated with a certain substance, are then measured and analysed. The process is completely non-invasive and no discomfort is felt.

Allergies & Intolerances

An allergy is an abnormal reactivity to a substance. Some reactions can be severe, immediate and obvious, and sometimes even life-threatening. Such reactions, involving a certain type of your immune system’s antibodies, are best detected using a blood test, available on the NHS. The trigger substance for such a reaction is usually easily identifiable even without a test. The antibodies causing this reaction will remain present in your blood for life.

There are however several other kinds of reaction, with a number of different causes. Some involve a different type of antibody, and these arise from the overexposure of your immune system to a certain substance, for example because of an unbalanced diet, impaired digestion, or damaged gut-lining, or the occupational use of certain chemicals. Other reactions, such as abdominal bloating and discomfort, may occur because your digestive system is not producing the required secretions to digest certain foods properly, perhaps because your diet is lacking in certain vitamins and minerals. An imbalance in the organisms that inhabit the gut may also cause problems. Some foods share certain types of chemicals with other foods, and then reactions may not always seem to occur in relation to the same food, because the reaction in fact occurs
only once a certain amount of these chemicals have accumulated in the body. All of these kinds of reactions can be referred to as sensitivities or intolerances, and may be incredibly varied in their effects; some effects may be felt very quickly after eating or contacting the substance, others may take 48 hours or longer to appear.

There are various methods that can be used to identify such sensitivities and intolerances, none of which can claim complete reliability. Methods include blood tests, intradermal ‘pin-prick’ tests, elimination diets, kinesiology, and electro-acupuncture, as well as bioresonance. Bioresonance is as accurate as any, with the possible exception of the most stringent regimes involving lengthy and restrictive diets. Bioresonance enables testing for reactivity to by far the widest and most comprehensive range of substances, and has many other advantages over other methods in terms of time, expense, ease, and comfort; moreover, it is able to assist in identifying the causes of these problems.

Hidden Food Sensitivities & Food Additives

Food sensitivities are often ‘masked’, in that there is no obvious connection between eating the offending food and the appearance or aggravation of symptoms, until an elimination diet is completed. Often digestive problems will be experienced, but not always, since once in the bloodstream the chemicals in foods can start causing problems just about anywhere in the body. Besides reactions to foods themselves, testing includes looking at reactions to additives (E numbers), such as artificial sweeteners, colourings, preservatives and flavourings (including monosodium glutamate or MSG), as well as foods are tested for; these may be implicated in a range of disorders from asthma to hyperactivity.

Some conditions that may be influenced by food sensitivity:

· Angina and circulatory problems
· Anxiety

Five commonly detected food intolerances:
· Wheat
· Gluten (it is possible to be intolerant of gluten and not to have coeliac
  (aka celiac) disease)
· Lactose
· Dairy protein(s) (eg casein)
· Yeast

Environmental Hazards

Sometimes a reaction to a group of foods is caused by overexposure of your system to certain types of chemicals, which may be on or in your food and drinks, in pharmaceutical drugs, or elsewhere in your environment or workplace. Over the years a build up of toxicity, including occupational toxicity, can contribute to sub-optimal health, and often disease, in a variety of ways. Some of the toxic influences that bioresonance scanning tests your system for include:

· Reaction to dental amalgam
· Aluminium (used to make cooking utensils)
· Formaldehyde (present in soft furnishings)
· Organophosphates (in chemical fertilisers)
· Pesticides (eg from agricultural spraying)
· Radiation from mobile phones and VDUs
· Residual toxicity from vaccinations
· Various hazardous substances encountered in the workplace & home,   including asbestos & lead

Environmental allergens can contribute to many conditions, especially atopic conditions such as asthma, eczema and hayfever. A range of environmental sensitivities can be detected, from specific pollen and fur types to chemicals used in personal hygiene and beauty products. Often ingested substances, such as food additives, can sensitise your system to inhaled substances, and vice-versa.

Could ‘candida’ be a contributory factor?

Bioresonance scanning can also reveal the presence of candida-type fungal overgrowths, which are often major contributory factors in food sensitivities. Biofeedback and other treatment options are available that are effective in dealing with these conditions. They are effective because they are aimed at the relevant underlying causes of the condition, and do not rely solely on lengthy or permanent restrictive diets.

Nutrition Analysis

As well as testing for food sensitivities, bioresonance tests can indicate whether or not you are deficient in any of the vital nutrients that your body needs to remain in good health. Everyone has their own individual requirements to maintain healthy functioning of tissues, organs and systems. Deficiency can result in impaired digestion, leading to food sensitivities. Impaired digestion also results in required nutrients not being absorbed properly from your diet, compounding your problems further. Modern methods of growing, harvesting, processing and storing food are responsible for ever greater deficiencies developing, even when a balanced diet is eaten.
Bioresonance tests provide detailed information about your current nutritional status with regard to all the essentials, such as vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and enzymes.

Solutions to your health problems

The aim in working with clients is to achieve rapid relief from symptoms, while addressing their underlying causes. Whilst mere identification of food triggers, for example, can result in a restricted diet that relieves symptoms, unless the real issues are addressed this diet will either have to be followed permanently, or worse, as happens in some cases, further sensitivities develop, resulting in ever more restrictive diets. If you have lived without sensitivities for a significant portion of your life then there is every reason to suppose, in most cases, that you can return to being able to tolerate foods that are now problematic. My approach is ‘results orientated’; since the causes of most problems are multi-factorial, the solutions also often need to be. Hence when you come to be tested you will be thoroughly questioned as to the nature of your problems, and how they started; other features of health will also be noted. This information helps with the analysis and subsequent treatment of your condition. Advice given is recorded in a folder, which you leave with, covering various issues such as dietary modifications (eg foods to avoid, reduce, rotate, substitute or eat more of) and recommended supplements. Herbal tinctures and may be used to detoxify, to stimulate digestive secretions, to eliminate candida, or as organ tonics. Homeopathic remedies are often invaluable both in stimulating detoxification and in addressing the psychological issues, such as stress, that are important contributory components of the disorder.

Treating allergies, intolerances and sensitivities with isopathy

In many cases the generalised treatment outlined above is sufficient to allow people to regain tolerance, or desensitise, to a wide range of trigger foods and environmental allergens. Homeopathic treatment to improve overall psychological and physical constitutional health, and clear out the effect of toxic influences, in addition, where necessary, with broad spectrum desensitisation, is often an important element of the overall strategy. On occasions, however, certain sensitivities persist in spite of better overall health being achieved, calling for specific homeopathic desensitisation using a branch of homeopathy known as ‘isopathy’. In more rare cases general treatment to improve overall health is hindered more or less from the start by stubborn and severe sensitivities that appear to be resistant to standard approaches. Isopathic densensitisation employs remedies made from miniscule, diluted doses of the allergens, (ie the trigger substances themselves). Where possible desensitization is facilitated by means of potentised isopathic remedies, giving relatively long-lasting, and often permanent results. When all else fails isopathic neutralization can be resorted to; this method (an oral variant of the Miller technique of intradermal neutralisation) uses drops of various dilutions of the allergens to both accurately identify sensitivities and provide immunity to them. (This system of neutralisation is needle-free and non-invasive, using only drops by mouth; ‘type-1’ allergies, such as bee sting and peanut allergies resulting in immediate and life-threatening swelling and/or anaphylactic shock, will not be treated however). Oral neutralisation drops offer immunity to the allergen for four hours after each drop dose, during which time the offending food or substance can be eaten, breathed or contacted without the usual associated symptoms appearing.
